Members may contribute through advocacy, education, committees, projects, community engagement, research, issue identification, or other activities established by the organization.

Bring Your Experience

No two people experience accessibility in exactly the same way. Deafblind people bring different communication methods, life experiences, professions, cultures, priorities, and perspectives that enrich DBCA's work. DBCA values this diversity and encourages members to learn from one another while communicating across differences with respect.

 

The organization's original values emphasized perseverance, initiative, humility, excellence, accountability, and diversity. Those principles remain important to effective participation today.

 

We Welcome Professionals and Allies

You do not have to be deafblind to contribute to a more accessible society. Family members, accessibility professionals, educators, interpreters, SSPs, researchers, engineers, designers, attorneys, policymakers, students, advocates, and other allies bring valuable knowledge, skills, and perspectives that strengthen DBCA and help advance accessibility for everyone. Membership also provides opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, exchange ideas, contribute to meaningful initiatives, expand professional networks, build lasting relationships, and help shape the future of accessibility and public policy.

 

DBCA encourages participation that respects the leadership, experiences, and choices of deafblind people while recognizing that lasting progress depends upon collaboration among people with diverse expertise and lived experience.

Some of the most important advocacy begins with an everyday experience. If you encounter a product, service, technology, building feature, policy, or practice that creates a significant barrier for deafblind people, DBCA wants to understand the problem. Information shared with DBCA may help identify broader patterns, inform education or advocacy, or inspire future initiatives.
